|The check box in the Services section apparently has 3 possible entries: a check which I assume means the service is allowed to run, empty which I assume means the service is not allowed to run, or a red x which means ???|

|Checked means that the service will be started automatically when the system starts. Unchecked is that the service in the Manual state - you can run it. Red X is a disabled service.
