Missing "/" at end of URL causing problems?

Author Message

Hello Oleg,

Hope you are well. It has been some years since I have last been on this forum. Could you help me out with a problem I am having with the following site:

http://www2.uregina.ca/wilu2011/

The problem seems to be that the links on the live site do not have a "/" at the end of the URL. As a result, the links don't work in the downloaded copy. Here is an example of the message I receive when I click on a downloaded link:

www2.uregina.ca/wilu2011/archives/489 was not found on this server

I have tried exporting, but it does not help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Patricia,

I downloaded the site and it works correctly when browsing inside the Internal browser of Offline Explorer.

I also exported it with the "Standard extensions" box checked. It added .htm extension to all such filenames, like:

D:\export3\www2.uregina.ca\wilu2011\archives\505.htm

As I see, the slash is not necessary on the online site. I tried to browse to:

http://www2.uregina.ca/wilu2011/archives/669/

It immediately redirects back to:

http://www2.uregina.ca/wilu2011/archives/669

Can you please post your project settings here? Select it, press Ctrl+C and paste to the forum message.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Here are the settings.

Please note that for our purposes, the downloded site needs to work with exterior browsers. We do not use the internal browser. Would the browser I use have an impact? I currently use FireFox.

The reason is simple - you have URL Filters - Filename - Included keywords list:

default.htm

It doesn't allow to download links, like www2.uregina.ca/wilu2011/archives/669

This is why these files are absent offline and also in the exported version. I would suggest you to clear this list and download the site completely.

Oleg.

Oops, that was my latest project settings. I should have sent you the original. The reason I included the filter is because nothing else was working and I saw a similar issue on the form that used that particular keyword filter as the solution. My previous attempts did not have any keyword filter and I downloaded the whole site with poor results. I'll try it again and let you know.

Hi Oleg: I tried it again and exported it with better results. For the export I didn't check any of the options and I exported it to a "folder on a disk". However, a problem remains: the directory for "program" is missing (and that is the most important content for our purposes). When I look at the files downloaded, there is no "program" directory. That appears to be the only one missing. All others are complete. There doesn't seem to be a robots.txt blocking it. Any suggestions? Here are my latest project settings:

One added note: I exported twice *with* and *without* "standard extensions" checked. Both are missing the "program" directory.
Oleg Chernavin 08/22/2013 11:05 am
I made the download and the /program/ folder is there. Here is the backup of the downloaded Project using your last settings:

Hi Oleg: This is really odd, but I've fixed it. I was originally downloading to a Unix server so instead I downloaded it directly to my desktop, and exported it to my desktop - lo and behold, the program directory was there. I then moved it to the Unix server and it works fine. Do you have any insights as to why the download would be complete when downloading to one location rather than another?
Oleg Chernavin 08/22/2013 01:12 pm
Maybe the /program/ directory has some system meaning on Unix? I have no other idea. Anyway, I will remember this glitch - maybe some other users would have the same effect.

Thank you!

Oleg.

Thank you, too Oleg. Couldn't have solved it without you. Much appreciated!

You are welcome!
