I?ve got several problems with the offline explorer 5.9 pro...
sometimes during the downloading progress the program just closes...without any crash report...I dont know why and meanwhile it happens at irregular intervals...It?s pretty annoying because I never managed to load the whole website of around 8 gigabyte.
I doubt that you can help me to get the problem fixed but I just wanted to give it a try^^
Thanks in advance

Unzip the file and replace the old oe.exe file with the new one. Please let
me know how it works. If it still crashes, I will make a version that makes detailed logs.

When it crashes, please send me the c:\download\oe.log file to support@metaproducts.com
Thank you!
Oleg.
I'm using OE version PRO 5.7.3140 SR2 that was bought to you on 26/05/2008 and I am experiencing the same problem as "tr". I tried to download the version mentioned above, but I find that is no longer available. Can you help me with this issue?
Best Regards!

Will it work better?
Oleg.
I am using the latest Beta of version 6. I am having the same problem. After an indefinite amount of time, the program just exits. Typically it goes for a few hours and then exits. At first, I thought the issue was connections. I pushed it to 80. I started lowering it though and the program continues to do it. I am now down to 50 and the program is still closing. That's a big problem when I am trying to download large sites that have many files queued. Until this problem gets fixed, is there a way to set the program to restart and resume from where it was?
Ken
1. Decrease connections to 10 (default number).
2. Uncheck the box "Index files for faster search" in the Project Properties dialog before you start downloading the Project.
3. If none of the above helps, start OE.exe from command line with parameter:
oe.exe /NoDB
Please let me know what of the above helps.
Thank you!
Oleg.
I'll try decreasing the number of connections as well. I had really just started with v6, so I have no history with it. That being said, this problem seems to be related to connections. I tried 80 and it closed within 10 seconds. I dropped to 75 and it went longer but still closed very quickly. I went to 60 and it went quite a while, but closed. I was down to 50 when I wrote to you yesterday. I am not certain if it is still on 50 or if I decreased the number of connections further, but I started it yesterday afternoon and it was still downloading the website this morning. It ran all afternoon, evening, and night and was still running when I left the house. I have more than enough bandwidth for 100 connections. Is there any way I can use a large portion of it or do I need to run the program like I was using a 28K dial-up line? Is there anything I can do to Windows 7 to increase the connections? Would it help the problem if I did?
I was also working with my computer earlier yesterday when it kept closing. So, I don't know for sure if it's the decreased connections or not doing anything else with my computer while I left it alone to just download. Whatever the case, things are clearly better and moving in the right direction.
Thanks, Ken
Oleg.
What basically happens is that it shuts down after some hours. It seems to be the same regardless wich site I am downloading.

Can you try to run Offline Explorer from command line this way:
oe.exe /NoDB
Oleg.
Thanks for taking your time!
By typing "oe.exe /NoDB" or just "oe.exe" I only get the answer that it is not a valid command in the prompt.
David
"........./oe.exe" /NoDB
Oleg.
This morning though OE had not just exited as it usually does. Insted it left an error message: "Invalid pointer operation".
Does this mean anything to you?
Thanx,
David
Oleg.
However this will take some time, because I am travelling now.

After every download the software crashes.

Please let me know how it works. If it also crashes, does this happen on 1 site or on all that you download? How fast it happens, after what number of files.
Thank you!
Oleg.

But I have a temporary solution, which will delay the crash, but I don't know, for how long exactly. I learned about it, when I was testing another spider (WeXtr). Anyway, NEVER set the Number of connections above 4!! With 4 connections, OE will survive 24h+ of downloading, but after setting it to 9 connections, it will crash in less than 12h.
In WeXtr, 5+ connections will overload even my i7 CPU. WeXtr won't crash, but I can't use my PC, while it's doing its business. But setting it to 4, will keep my system usable and allow WeXtr to finish its job.
So, I think, that OE can't keep itself stable, when it "overloads" end-user's PC. Recommend users, with crash issues, to NEVER increase the Number of connections above 4 or even try a lower number than that.
For example, HTTrack doesn't have any crashing issues about resource usage at all, it can do a job for weeks... before the internet runs out.
A recommended spider job "survival" goal: 2 weeks of downloading on a PC with 3.2GHz single-core CPU and 3GB of RAM.
