Concerns with 'Use alternative connection method (for NTLM authentication etc)

I find when I use SOCKS5 proxy (and maybe other ones) and use:
'Use alternative connection method (for NTLM authentication etc)'
OEP dowloands even if I put in completely fictitious servers.
I have tested extensively. Either I am going crazy or I keep finding problems...yes I am making a new project...or there is a bug?
Again, thanks in advance,

|Do you have a public SOCKS server? If yes, can you let me know how this can be reproduced?

I have just paid for a SOCKS5 Proxy service - I can forward the user ID/Password by email if you like.
But the point is, if I choose SOCKS5 proxy and check 'Use alternative connection method (for NTLM authentication etc)' then I can just make up a server name like abc5.jhgvluhvluhulgygvyuluylvlu.com and the download works.
Makes me wonder if OEP under these settings just ignores them and does not go through a proxy at all.
