Offline Explorer Pro Crashing

We're having a recent problem where any attempts to download a project (any project) result in Offline Explorer Pro crashing immediately upon accessing the first file from the site, with no erorr messages. This happens with any site. I even tried google.com set to 0 levels and it crashed with that as well. This is happening on several installations of OE pro here. It occured with v3.9 and again with an upgraded v4.5.

The lack of any error messages makes it all the more mysterious. Since it happens on at least 3 different PCs I don't know if it might be something with our Windows or network setup, but any clues for the IT folks would be helpful so we can point them in the right direction.

Thanks!

I tried setting a log file per an earlier post on this forum but it doesn't really indicate much. But for what it's worth, I've pasted it below.

I tested that link download and it went fine. Please try to turn off GZIP setting in the Options dialog - Speed section. Would this help?

I tried that, and even reduced the bandwidth speed to 'medium', but aside from being slightly slower, it still crashed upon accessing the page. No error messages or anything -- the application just spontaneously quits.

Can you please download the following file, unzip it and replace oe.exe file with the new one?

http://www.metaproducts.com/download/betas/oep2550.zip

Would this fix the issue?

Still the same problem -- thanks very much for your help though.

Can you change the Project URL to:

http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en

Also, turn off MS IE cookies in the Options dialog and let me know what happens.

I think I may have figured it out -- it appears the directories specified when it was installed by IT now no longer exist. So under -- Advanced-File Locations - "Temporary Directory" and "Projects, templates, maps..." I had to change the specified directories. (I noticed it was not retaining any of the project-type settings even when I did 'save changes', which made me think it was having trouble saving this type of data.)

Anyway, maybe having an internal check to see the various data directories exist and returning an error message to that effect would be helpful in the next version.

Thanks again for your responsiveness & assistance!

Strange. When it accesses these directories and they are absent, it should create them. I will check this, anyway.

Our desktops are very locked-down. It might have had permissions issues when trying to create the missing directories. (in the case of one directory, it was listed under a non-existant user's folder, which it probably would not have had permission to create)
