Not picture but jpg extension

Hello,

A website I download has some files which although having a picture extension, such as jpg, are not really pictures. They caanot be opened and they do not have any dimensions listed in windows explorer.

These are later replaced by proper image files.

My problem is that although I try downloading just the `missed` files later, I can`t because oe thinks these files have already been downloaded (I don`t want to redownload the entire site for a few images).

I have tried using the file size and dimension filters for images, but they do not work on these `phantom` image files.

Can something be done about this?

Oleg - I am just emailing an example file to you.

Many thanks,

Tony.

Well, one suggestion is to search for the following phrase in all downloaded files:

"Microsoft Support"

These broken image files are actually HTML pages with an error message. Using the Edit | Find Contents feature and delete all such files.

Thanks Oleg - I should probably have realised that and just tried opening the files with notepad.

I actually automate the projects so have chosen a keyword to put into the content filters in the project.

BUT - I want to be able to go back and download the proper jpg files when they become available on the target website later.

If I use the `file modification check` options the project still scours too many files, rather than just simply redownloading the files that were filtered out. Is there any way to just go directly and get the filtered out files only?

Many thanks,

Tony.

Only the "Download missing files" will probably help if such files are deleted/not downloaded.

Hi Oleg,

Is there a way to automate this, either in the project properties or from the command line?

Many thanks,

Tony.

Yes, you can add the Project to the Sequencer twice.

Hello Oleg,

I am not sure you understand what I mean - I will try and explain better!

The broken jpg files are replaced by real ones the following day.

I want to be able to go back and get the real files the following day, only without redoing the whole website.

I want to be able to automate this procedure.

Is there a way to do this?

Many thanks,

Tony.

Yes, I would do it this way - setup Contents Filters in the Project Properties dialog not to save files that contain "Microsoft Support". Download the Project using Shift+F5 and download it using Ctrl+F5 on the following day.

So, all manual actions are start Offline Explorer, Shift+F5 and the same but with Ctrl+F5 the next day.

Is it possible to automate this process Oleg?

if not, will the facility be available in future versions?

Many thanks,

Tony.

This is very specific. You can do the automation yourself by using a Windows scheduler and running Offline Explorer from the command line to start the Project download on the days you want.

Hello Oleg,

I already do that with all my projects. We seem to be completely miscommunicating here.

OK. What do I specifically put in the command line so that when the project starts it will "download missing files" only?

Many thanks,

Tony.

There is no such command-line switch, but you can have two Projects - they will be simular (use Copy/Paste to create a new Project). The only difference would be in the Download missing files/Download updated and new files. One day you would start one to get updates, the next day you will start the other to get missing images using the command-line.

Both Projects will use the same files in the same directory.

Hi Oleg,

Hmmm - maybe we are still talking at cross purposes.

I can`t find any option called "Download missing files/Download updated and new files" that works automatically. Only the "Download missing files" in the Download sub menu for a manual download.

Or do you mean the "Skip existing files on levels higher than" option?

Many thanks,

Tony.

Sorry. Their exact names are:

Download only modified and new files
Do not download existing files

Hello Oleg,

Unfortunatley it isn`t so easy :-(

The website also updates with more pages, and as more pages are added the url also chages to reflect the page number and list number on the page and as a result OE treats everything as new and redownloads even the pictures on those pages with unchanged urls.

The closest I can seem to get is using the "skip existing files on levels higher than" option and only have images checkmarked in the project, but this doesn`t go directly to the filtered out broken images and so takes somewhat long.

Anyway, I can get what i need it seems, but not as efficiently as i had hoped.

Many thanks,

Tony.

Sorry that I cannot come with a better solution. However if you have software developers in your team, you can use Offline Explorer Enterprise - you will be able to write a simple program to control it, to change Project settings, monitor the download progress, etc.
