Hi:
Will offline explorer help me to download an ebook from this URL?
www.accessmedicine.com/resourceTOC.aspx@resourceID=24
It starts downloading, lots of junks keeps coming with unlimited levels, starting server settings.

However, the individual sections fail to download. And if I click add the link to existing project, it does download and appends to the project. However, where is javascript to open a new window, offline does not do do anything. No window opens up so I am unable to download those pages.

I know it is a pain to go through all links to download, but I have no choice. Is there a better way to do it?

please let me know

Well, there were several discussions on that site recently. Can you please search this forum for accessmedicine and see if the previous advices help?

If not, let me know.

Hi Oleg:
I am sorry i don`t have one. I am accessing through university. Infact i don`t need the whole book. Just couple of chapters.

I guess it is going to be a problem if you don`t have username and password.

http://accessmedicine.com/content.aspx?aID=400002

Here is one page (i guess you won`t be able to access it) which has popup images using javascript windows.

Sorry. This page requires me to logon. I had a temporary password some time ago, but it has already expired.

Hi Oleg:
Maybe can u help me with this. Since entire book cannot be downloaded. I am wondering if it is possible to download chapter by chapter as I browse. THis is what I did. I tried to collect the entire book and stopped it half way as it was downloading junk (could see it from the URL). Then browse to a particular chapter, it will say link not found and has 2 options; to go the webpage or download and add it.

I click download the link and add it. however sometimes it downloads and creates a new project under that name. Is there a way to avoid this and save everything under one project?

thanks,

Mark

There is an easy way - logon the site in the Internal browser, go to the book contents page. Copy its URL and create a new Poject with this URL. Do not download the Project, but click the AutoSave button on the Internal browser toolbar and start browsing the newly created Project offline. This will add all of the pages you are browsing to the Project.

Thanks for the reply. How do I browse offline? Is there a setting in OE? Do I need to turn off my wireless network and then try to surf?

Please let me know.

No. I mean that you need to select that Project and click the Browse button on the Offline Explorer toolbar.

Hi Oleg:
it works great!.

However I encountered 2 new issues:

When I tried to explore the downloaded page with a new browser (maxthon), it opens and works as long as Offline explorer program is open. If I close/exit the program and try to surf the downloaded page in maxthon browser, it says cannot find the page and nothing comes. if I open the offline program and once again, i am able to surf. This is the URL that it has.
http://127.0.0.1:800/Default/accessmedicine.com/content.aspx@aID=400019

Could you please help me to figure it out? I don`t want to have offline explorer open to see the pages in a different browser.

2. THe javascript pop-up windows do not open within offline internal browser.

Thanks,

Mark.

The reason is simple - Offline Explorer contains internal Web server, which serves downloaded pages offline. However you can view them without Offline Explorer by opening the corresponding file directly from your hard disk.

You can also export (File | Export) downloaded Project for standalone browsing.

I will work on the popup windows issue.

That`s what I tried. I opened the index.html (or the first page to the site) in a browser. But it wouldn`t open until I opened OE.

I will try that and see.

Exporting project:
I tried exporting the project, but it did not work. it will open the html files fine, but the images does not and especially the popup related images are not opening.

Try to export to CHM (HTML Help) - it works better than browsing from the disk.

I am afraid it did not work either. The images are like this:
loadBinary.aspx@name=wils&filename=wils_c001f001

but it doesn`t get loaded up in the popup and neither in the html page. Rest of the html pages with words etc looks fine.

When i click on the image to bring up the popup image, IE opens a window and this is what I see: and it says `restricted file`

OK. Let`s try another way - please download the following file and unzip it to the directory where Offline Explorer is installed:

http://www.metaproducts.com/download/betas/oebrowse.zip

Now you will be able to export to a compressed EXE viewer. Perhaps, this is the best way to view the site offline.

Awesome it works. However still I am not getting those popups to open. I am able to see the images in the HTML file as thumbnails, but popups for bigger ones are not opening. It doesn`t do anything.

By the way, OE browser was trying to access the internet, I got this alarm from ZA when i tried to open the compressed exe viewer for the project. Hope it is not accessing the actual website. Am i right?

I might have forgotten to say this, the site works fine if I do the following. Open OE, then right click on the project and then select browse with my external browser, everything works fine including the popups. But I don`t want to open OE all the time to browse a project, hence I was requesting the above method.

Thanks

Mark

Can you please select that Project and make a backup of it using Tools | Backup menu? Is the resulting .boe file big? If it is less than 1.5 MBs, can you please send it to me to support@metaproducts.com ? This way I will be able to reproduce the popup windows issue and see how it can be fixed.
