OEP 3.0 Problems: Frozen parsing and Suspend to File not working

Just upgraded from 2.9 to 3.0 and I`m having two problems:

1. The parsing of URLs is frozen in my current download. When I suspend with F9, downloading stops (as it should), but parsing does too (the number of files to parse --currently 10,892-- does not go down). And OE.exe`s CPU usage is at a constant 0%. When I resume downloading, the number of files to be parsed goes UP with each page downloaded, but it never goes down, even after suspending again.

2. I suspended my current project to a file yesterday, but when I try to do it now I get this error: "Win32 error. Code: 1400. Invalid Window Handle".

BTW, I`m using W2K Pro SP4.

Hello,

Can the frozen parsing problem can be reproduces? Also, when does it happen - after how many downloaded files?

Regarding resuming from file - is that file big?

It can be, and it happens after several thousand files.

> Regarding resuming from file - is that file big?

Yes, maybe 200 MB.

And now I`m having another problem -- I can`t close OEP cleanly. When I try, I get the following error:

"OE.exe - Application error. The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at location 0x7c59ba9d"

This is followed by another error:

"Application Error. Exception EWin32Error in module OE.exe at 0000FAB8. Win32 error. Code 1400. Invalid window handle".

And then OEP refuses to exit. I also can`t view the program (call it up) -- I presume it`s hung. The tray icon`s menu pops up when I right click on it, but when I choose "Exit" and answer "Yes" to the "Do you want to quit?" question, nothing happens.

This is reproduced every time I open the program. I have to kill the process with the W2K Task Manager to close it.

It seems to me that version 3.0 is extremely unstable. Is there any danger in going back to 2.9?

No, they are highly compatible - just install it to the same directory. Please let me know how 2.9 version behaves. I suspect that something has changed on the system and 2.9 version will behave the same way. I understand that it is not normal, but I am sure that we will be able to fix that.

Please let me know about 2.9 version and then I will have some suggestions to try.

Thank you!

Oleg.

I reinstalled 2.9.1352, SR3, and everything seems to be working perfectly again. I can exit the program cleanly again, which I could never do that with 3.0, as I explained above -- the crash was 100% reproducible. Also, there are no queue freezes now, with 2.9 reinstalled.

I have several fixes in the queue code. Can I ask you to download the updated oe.exe file here:

http://www.metaproducts.com/download/betas/oep1487.zip

Regarding crashes on exit - can you do the following - on the bottom of the Welcome page click the link to disable the page when OE starts. Quit OE and start it again - please do not browse anything in its Internal Browser. Would OE crash on exit this way?

I suspect that it could be because the new tabbed Internal Browser.

Thank you!

I just installed it.

I just did this. After making the change you indicated...

1. I tried to close OE and it crashed the same way I have mentioned before.
2. I killed the OE.exe process
3. I restarted OE
4. I got the following error: "MetaProducts OfflineExplorer 3.0. Access violation at address 01010000. Read of address 01010000."
5. After that, the program does actually start up.
6. When I try to close OE, I do NOT get an error message now, but OE *still* does not actually close. I tried several times but OE froze up, and I had to kill the process to end it.

Yes, I am sorry that it takes so long. I reviewed changes from 2.9 version and made some improvements. I am not 100% sure that they help in your situation, but it is possible.

Here is the updated oe.exe file:

http://www.metaproducts.com/download/betas/oep1502.zip

Please let me know how it works. Thank you!

Yes, because we released the 3.0 SR1 version recently and all older betas were removed. Please get the most recent version here:

http://www.metaproducts.com/download/opsetup.exe

Is this problem reproduceable on some site? Can you try to see if /NoDB command-line parameter helps?

Thank you!
