Hello Oleg and all

I have been trying to download a Play from the BBC Site. It is in 5.1 Surround and plays at 128kbs.

I have the URL for the Programme:

mms://212.58.235.71/umw

When I paste this to Media Player, it plays an Itroduction of 19 secs. then goes on to load the rest of the Play about 1hr:26mins.

However when I paste the address into OE nothing happens.

Can you offer any advice?

Kind regards

Fred F.

Hello Again

FYI I have been able to find some more details by creating an Email of the Media Link via WMP.

It is as follows:

<Asx Version = "3.0" >
<Param Name = "AllowShuffle" Value = "yes" />

<Entry>
<Param Name = "SourceURL" Value = "mms://212.58.235.71/umw" />

<Title > umw</Title>

<Ref href = "mms://212.58.235.71/umw"/>
</Entry>
</Asx>

Does this give any clues?

I guess the ASX file will contain the URLs of the files, but don`t know how to download it.

Kind regards

This is a tough one.
It is a single stream that contains a new ASF header object.

OEP-OEE cannot download this for a couple different reasons.
OEP-OEE use MMS(HTTP) Protocol and this stream needs to be downloaded with MMS(TCP) Protocol.
Even if OEP-OEE had the ability to use MMS(TCP) Protocol I am not sure that it would be able to negotiate the new ASF header object to download the main part of the stream.

Here is a condensed log from the program Net Transport showing that new ASF header object.
It is the only program that will work on this stream.

Send the initial connect info
Initialization succeed
server version 9.00.00.3372, encryption type NTLM
Connect to funnel
Funnel was connected
Media /umw request
Request media header
Header request was accepted
total 00:00:19; head size = 2660 bytes; packet length = 5976 bytes; total 52 packets
Start streaming from packet 0
Streams were accepted
Media packets follow
Media stream end
Receive a new ASF header object
total 01:26:53; head size = 2642 bytes; packet length = 5976 bytes; total 14035 packets
Start streaming from packet 0
Media packets follow
Media stream end

Here is a way to download this and get both the Introduction file and the Main file.

Download and install Net Transport.
http://lycos26486.l78.lycos.com.cn/download.htm

Copy the stream URL.
mms://212.58.235.71/umw

Start Net Transport.

Step One:
Click the New button.
The URL box should show mms://212.58.235.71/umw
Click in the rename box and type UMW Introduction.wma
Look below at the Transports setting.
Make sure it is SET TO 9. IMPORTANT.
Click OK
The introduction part of the stream will be downloaded.
When the download is complete you will see a check mark next to the download.
Click the check mark to select that download.
Click the Delete button. Make sure that Delete downloaded file(s) is NOT CHECKED.
Click OK.

Step Two:
Click the New button.
The URL box should show mms://212.58.235.71/umw
Click in the rename box and type UMW.wma
Look below at the Transports setting.
Make sure it is SET TO 1 THIS TIME. IMPORTANT.
Click OK
The introduction part of the stream will be downloaded first, but this time it will be replaced by the main part of the stream. Because of the 1 Tranport thread.
When the download is complete you will see a check mark next to the download.
Click the check mark to select that download.

Step Three:
Since the downloaded file UMW.wma is the main part of the stream and is quite long you will want to index the file so that you can seek in it while playing.
Click Job.
Click Make Index for ASF...
In the Filename box type UMW Main.wma
Click Save.
The file will be indexed and saved with the new name UMW Main.wma
When it is done indexing click Open and see if the file plays.
If the file plays fine then.
Click the Delete button. Make sure that Delete downloaded file(s) is IS CHECKED.
This will delete the non-indexed file.
Click OK.

You should now have two files saved.
UMW Introduction.wma
UMW Main.wma

I hope this works for you and the downloaded files play. I could download the files but could not play them to check them out because my sound card does not support 5.1 Surround Sound.

I forgot to say.

If you don`t want the Introduction file and only want the main file you can start with Step Two:

If all that above does not work you will have to settle for the normal stream.

mms://212.58.231.99/nfs01/BBCRadio_music/encodedfiles/umw_low.wma?digest=013fb7973eOBUfiH9vLcNGArlwz2RL8nA9gsA=&provider=BBCRadio_music

OEP-OEE or Net Transport will work for that.

Thanks Veblin

Fortunately I had a copy of Net Transport, as thier download site is a bit `wonky`.

I was able to download the Update.zip for V1.53 as my original version did not support `live`, and the file seems to be tagged as such even though it is not.

You will be pleased to hear that I am currently downloading the main .wma file.

As I only have a 56kb modem, it will take several hours, but I want to keep this file on record for later use, so it will be worth it I hope.

I appreciate all your help.

Kind regards
