One more question about EXPORT

Hi Oleg,
There comes another question about EXPORT: I tried to export a project to all the "put files to" formats, they`re all browsible, except the MHT file - I can see nothing in IE`s text area. And this MHT file is NOT 0 sized. But this only happens to some of the old projects. Could you pls tell me what I can do ?
BTW, I don`t know much about MHT, but I find it takes some time to load MHT in IE.

With EXPORT function, I wanna "clean" OE - there`s so many old projects which I only browse occationally. But EXPORTing them one by one is annoying, and I have to rename each manually. Is there a better way? For example: can I backup the old settings of OE, delete it, then make a new settings file (with a different DOWNLOAD DIRECTORY of course) and got a new database, and some day I can copy back the old settings and browse the old database? But what is the settings file of OE? Is it map, mpx, dat, int?
Please give me some advice. Thanks in advance.
billy.

Yes, MHT format looks to be not in a big favor in MS IE. We noticed that sometimes it doesn`t like to browse certain Web pages rom MHT.

You would better make the Backup of the desired Projects (or a Projects folder). Backup / Restore features are located in the Tools menu.

That`s great. Sorry for my dimness, does the Backup result - .boe file - include .dat, .map and .mpx ? and besides that, I must make a copy of the project folder? And how can I control which will be Backuped - a project or the folder it belongs to?

Regard,
billy.

Yes, backup file is just a ZIP file with .boe extension. It includes Project(s) settings, their map files and all files that were downloaded by these Projects, so when you restore it on the same or another computer, you get everything back.

> and besides that, I must make a copy of the project folder?

No. Backup includes all information that belongs to the selected Project(s).

> And how can I control which will be Backuped - a project or the folder it belongs to?

What you select is what will be saved in the .boe file. If it is a single Project - only the Project, its Map and its loaded files (sites) will be there. If you select several Projects (using Shift-click or Ctrl-click) - all these Projects will be there together. If you select a Projects folder, then Offline Explorer will save all Projects that are located inside the selected Folder.

....My english is not good enough....But I find that .boe file is very small in size, and I think the content of the project could not be included. So I guess boe file only includes settings of the project. Then I have to make a copy of the content the project, e.g, if I`m backing up all my projects, I should make a copy of the whole c:/download/ folder. Am I right?

Yes, but anyway, .boe file includes Project contents also.

But how can a folder including 20 projects, totally 50MB at least, be BACKUPed into a 5MB boe file? (finally I found only 3 of the projects are in boe file.) Or, I multi-selected 8 projects and then made a BACKUP, the boe file turned out to be 2KB ( even a single project could not be so small, that`s why I guess boe do not include contents of projects ), and I found only 1 of the projects was in this boe file.

Do you use 2.8 version? We have some fixes in the Backup/Restore feature there.

Well, I`ve upgraded to the newest version, and the same thing happened. Maybe I should do more research works. Thanks for your help.

It may happen that the Project .map file doesn`t contain all the info about loaded files. To fix that simply open Properties dialog of the desired Project, select Do not load existing files, click OK and start downloading it. It will go through all files and add them to the Project map.

Thank you, I`ll give it a shot. And please tell me, what if I stay offline and do what you advise me to do - select Do not load existing files, click OK and start downloading it - pretending it`s online ?

Yes, simply wait until all Parsing(xxx) messages in the Status bar go and it becomes Downloading. Then you can abort downloading any files that are in the Queue and the Project Map will be restored.

Hello, Oleg!
Just one another question about export :)
Is exporting to .chm possible? The TOC, for example, can be formed from the Project map...
It`s a very nice format, with great search possibilities inside and many other useful options.
At the present moment I have to export the files to html, then manually form the TOC file, and then compile a chm using external tools like htm2chm etc.
Well, aren`t you thinking about a built-in function in the future?

Yes, we plan to add it in future versions, maybe in 3.0.

Thank you.
