downloading pictures which have false names

I have just seen that oep is not downloading pictures which were renamed to .hmtl (i think to prevent them from downloading (?)).

so abcd.jpeg was renamed to abcd.html (and this html was included as an image into another html).
online this picture shows up normally but oe isn?t getting it correctly.
while downloading i can see the these (image)html?s are queued but when they are to be downloaded there comes this message:
1.connecting to host
2.host connected (the filesize shows up correctly ~300kb)
3.aborted (but WHY?)

i have already tried to add .html to the file-filters dialog but it didn?t work.

has someone an idea how to get these files?

ps: even better would be if OE could recognize these files and automatically rename them to .jpg (for example if it finds the "JFIF" tag at the beginning of an html-file, but this would need an update while the downloading should work without one somehow)

Can you please tell me the URL of the page with such images? I will see what`s wrong there. From the Aborted message, I think that you have set some limits in File Filters section. Please try to remove size or dimension limits there and see if this helps.

Regarding changing extensions - this will cause Offline Explorer to change links in downloaded files to point to files with changed extensions. It is double-work.

in the third post on this page (from "Stiffler.Cum") there are these images.
if you do right-click properties on them you get the url: like "http://stiffler.web1000.com/Stiffler/Natalie_Raitano/raitano_natalie4.html"

these are the files which are not downloaded in OEP for some reason.

not to forget: i have not set any limits (filesize or dimension) for images at all so this cannot be the cause.

First, these links point to another server. So, URL Filters | Server should have "Load from all servers" selected. Second, when I tried to browse that page in MS IE, I got an error message for these images - there were not displayed at all.

i know that these images aren?t shown correctly sometimes (read about this somewhere in the forum) but if you copy the url from the file?s into the the address bar from IE the file is loaded (although the image isn?t shown as IE doesn?t recognize it with the wrong name (.html instead of .jpg)). because this works, OEP should be able to download the file?s aswell (i have loading from all servers enabled).
it looks like it?s working as it reports the correct file-size for these files but than aborts the download for some reason. the question is why? i think i have no setting which should filter this files out but OEP still isn?t loading them.

I found this - there were requests to stop loading if there is a Web page instead of an image file. There is almost no sence in loading such files - they cannot be viewed in a browser. Why do you want to load these Web pages?

i want to load them with OEP because i know it are images. if OEP would load them all i need to do is to rename them to .jpg and they are working fine.

and hiding them behind an html-extension is quite common on boards atm because you can use free webspace (like fortunecity) without having to fear that tey are deleted because of the bandwidth they consume.
on some image intensive boards almost every fifth image is posted in .html style and the number is increasing.

I`m wondering if this issue is the same as downloading images like this one:

<IMG SRC="/generate.asp?imgid=100" width="100"..>

those are images created on the fly, or per request. you can find many of them now in the web. currently OE doesn`t download those kind of images. will the new update help?

Yes, I think so. Another issue with such images is that while .jpg, .gif files could be easily allowed to be loaded from any site, you will need to allow downloading for .asp images specifically.

For example, if you download from http://www.site.com/dir/file.htm, you will need to allow loading from all directories to get the above image.
