OK. There is a fast way. Browse to the site in the Internal browser of Offline Explorer Pro, logon there and open the book. Open the first chapter of the book, then right-click somewhere inside the chapter text and choose Properties. Copy the whole long URL from that window and close it. Create a new Project with this URL, which looks like:

http://gateway.ut.ovid.com/gw1/ovidweb.cgi?targetFrame=1&S=IDNJHKKKHCDECN00D&Book+Content=S.sh.2.14.15%7c2%7c00000000%7c%7c/CT{06b9ee1beed594198f7efb890822b991af3b580089f1a5e01e9ecfeb7fd4bd8d9863287253dc5c4299b7265e56737199}/OVIDBOOK[1]/TXTBKBD[1]/CHAPTER[1]

You will need to change the CHAPTER[1] to CHAPTER[{:1..15}] to load the sequence of chapters:

http://gateway.ut.ovid.com/gw1/ovidweb.cgi?targetFrame=1&S=IDNJHKKKHCDECN00D&Book+Content=S.sh.2.14.15%7c2%7c00000000%7c%7c/CT{06b9ee1beed594198f7efb890822b991af3b580089f1a5e01e9ecfeb7fd4bd8d9863287253dc5c4299b7265e56737199}/OVIDBOOK[1]/TXTBKBD[1]/CHAPTER[{:1..15}]

The URL should be different because of the &S=IDNJHKKK.... session ID.

Download this with Level=0 and you will be able to access all of the book chapters using the Project Map.

By the way, is it possible to download the TOC with javascript links also?
Oleg Chernavin 03/31/2006 04:29 am
I am not sure about this. The scripts are really complex on this site.

Hi Oleg,

http://gateway.ut.ovid.com/gw1/ovidweb.cgi?targetFrame=1&S=IDNJHKKKHCDECN00D&Book+Content=S.sh.2.14.15%7c2%7c00000000%7c%7c/CT{06b9ee1beed594198f7efb890822b991af3b580089f1a5e01e9ecfeb7fd4bd8d9863287253dc5c4299b7265e56737199}/OVIDBOOK[1]/TXTBKBD[1]/CHAPTER[1]

When this url gets downloaded, it is renamed and shortened. It also loses the last part i.e. OVIDBOOK[1]/TXTBKBD[1]/CHAPTER[1]. What I wanted to know is that if it is possible to keep the original url name? Because if I do a download missing files it download the same files again.

Thanks

Sorry, it is not possible. Windows filesystem doesn't allow too long filenames. However Offline Explorer contains a database that converts short filenames to long URLs when necessary, so it should update the downloaded site correctly.

I'm trying to download the same book but I can't get it to work. For instance, if you add a project with this address:

http://gateway.ut.ovid.com/gw1/ovidweb.cgi?targetFrame=1&S=IDNJHKELJDGAEL00D&Book+Content=S.sh.2.14.15%7c9%7c00000000%7c%7c/CT{06b9ee1beed594198f7efb890822b991af3b580089f1a5e006016b3df50cd0ce2cf4294301c43e9c52281b79d4b69ed6}/OVIDBOOK[1]/TXTBKBD[1]/CHAPTER[1]#gohere

And hit Download, when you click on the "map" tab you see:

ovidweb.cgi?targetFrame=1&S=IDNJHKELJDGAEL00D&Book+Content=S.sh.2.14.15%7c9%7c00000000%7c%7c/CT%7B06b9ee1beed05F6A93DC9

if you click in that link you get "Document no found" etc. Clicking "Click here to go online" doesn't work because the URL is truncated.

---------

What should I do (step by step) to download this book? captain, did you manage to rip the book? Please email me at askme4realone-portais@yahoo.com.br. Thanks.

I don't have login for this site now. I would suggest you to logon it in the Internal browser, then select the Project you downloaded, click the AutoSave button on the browser toolbar and then click Browse. All missing files and pages will be loaded for you as you browse the site.

Oleg,

never mind my last question in this page, I've figured it out. But I have another question. As "captain" said, the long filenames get shortened losing the last part. In my particular case I don't need the initial part of the filename but the last part is crucial. Since the problem as you pointed out is the lenght of the filename, is there a way I could keep the final part and loose the initial part of the filename in exchange? For exemple:

http://gateway.ut.ovid.com/gw1/ovidweb.cgi?targetFrame=1&S=IDNJHKJKEDCGAP00D&Book+Content=S.sh.2.14.15%7c29%7c00000000%7c%7c/CT{06b9ee1beed59419cdf922257a175d8f2408da4ad6a2ecdee37d00a40e6f5b61f5fb0ae66f32060a1ca41b638b570a90}/OVIDBOOK[1]/TXTBKBD[1]/DIVISIONA[1]/CHAPTER[1]

gets converted to

ovidweb.cgi?targetFrame=1&S=IDNJHKJKEDCGAP00D&Book+Content=S.sh.2.14.15%7c29%7c00000000%7c%7c/CT{06b9ee1bee07912A1D5B.htm

can I do something to get it saved as

IloveOE_OVIDBOOK[1]_TXTBKBD[1]_DIVISIONA[1]_CHAPTER[1].htm

or something equivalent? (windows won't accept "/" in a filename)

Thanks!!!

Oh, If the program could generate a list showing "this exported file (whatever shortened name) stands for this original URL" would do the trick in my case. If I download 1000 webpages, each corresponding to a book chapter, I get lost with filenames when trying to create a TOC.
Oleg Chernavin 01/30/2007 04:36 am
Well, there is an option in the export - to create HTML Help file with contents. This is the only way I can offer you now.
