I would like to use F-prot as the antivirus scanner, but DE sends the long file name to the av scanner, and F-prot only accepts short file names from the command line. Can DE be configured to send short file names?

Sorry, I din't say that I use F-prot DOS. This comes from my own experience. Here is an example of what happens when F-prot DOS is run from the cammand line, the same as when DE send to the AV Scanner:

VIRUS SIGNATURE FILES
SIGN.DEF created 25 August 2006
SIGN2.DEF created 25 August 2006
MACRO.DEF created 25 August 2006

Search: E:\Windows\Desktop\eicarcom2.zip
Action: Report only
Files: "Dumb" scan of all files
Switches: /ARCHIVE /PACKED /NOBOOT /NOMEM
Memory was not scanned.
Hard disk boot sectors were not scanned.

Error on scanning E:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\EICARCOM.ZIP

Results of virus scanning:

Files: 1
MBRs: 0
Boot sectors: 0
Objects scanned: 0

Time: 0:00

No viruses or suspicious files/boot sectors were found.
