Now there are only a "Download all files" option when I right-click a web page with links, as well as an additional "Download this file" option when I right-click a link.
Using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with IE v9.0.8112.16421 (latest updates as of today), and MD v3.8.843.
Has this "Download selected files" option been removed from MD? Or is it not there simply because is does not work in IE 9, W7x64, or some other combination of software/versions?
Kind regards,
Mr Olrich
Thank you for your report.
I will check this with the developer and reply you shortly.

There was no such feature for Internet Explorer.
It is available in FireFox and Crome browsers. Did you use any of these browsers?
Best regards,
Alexander
This is very strange because I have never used anything but IE (and Opera, though without MD), and never Firefox or Chrome. I am 99,9% sure this was a feature of the IE+MD combo for quite some time (several years, perhaps, I don't know), and one of the main reasons I stayed with IE+MD and not other browser/download manager combos. It has not been present for the last few releases, as far as I know, and that stretches back a while (perhaps a year or two?). Before IE8? Just a guess.
Kind regards,
Mr Olrich
Yes, this is really strange. I asked the developer. He says there was no such feature in the right-click context menu for Internet Explorer. However, it is possible to select a part of the page with links, then drag & drop this selection to Mass Downloader or its Drop Box.
Best regards,
Alexander
Weirdness... :-) This is very strange since this particular feature was the main reason I stayed with the MD/IE combo for so long, and didn't go for other browsers or other download managers. Because it has been quite a while -- maybe a couple of years -- since I saw that feature in MD/IE, I may recall incorrectly the text of the right click menu item, but I believe it said something along the lines of "Download selected files with Mass Downloader".
Since I download a lot from EasyNews (which presents HTML links to binary content of news groups), the IE/MD combo was a definite win. EasyNews can present thousands of links on a single web page, and if you then use "Download all", it takes a long time before MD's preview window (or whatever you call it) shows, if it does show it at all and don't crash. Having had the ability to select just a few of those thousands of links, then right click them, select the menu item, and then have them (and only them) transferred to the preview window in only a second or two, was a life saver for me. And I have used it for years...
If you say this has not existed with the MD/IE combo, and does not exist, I have no choice but to accept that. Since you say that this has been a feature of MD with Firefox and Chrome, could it be that it somehow "accidentally" also worked in IE? Not intentionally, but did so anyway?
I would love to get hold of some old builds of MD to test this, preferrably some builds from two, three, or four years back. Are any of those available?
Best regards,
Mr Olrich
Do you remember what build do you have?
Please try the 3.2 build: http://www.metaproducts.com/download/mdsetup32.exe
Best regards,
Alexander
I downloaded the 3.2 build and tested it on a XP virtual machine with IE8. There were only two MD items present on the right click menu when I selected multiple links from a web page: "Download this item" and "Download all".
Do you have any other, earlier builds available? v2.8, perhaps?
Kind regards,
Mr Olrich
Unfortunately, we don't.
Alexander
Mr Olrich, I hope you don't mind me suggesting a possible solution.
At the times that you wish to "download selected" files, when using IE
(no matter what version) ..............
firstly, RIGHT CLICK the Mass Downloader icon in your taskbar.
MAKE SURE that MONITOR CLIPBOARD "AND" MONITOR BROWSER CLICKS ARE TICKED.......
THEN, simply highlight the files you want, right click, choose COPY......
then VOILA, Mass downloader intercepts JUST THOSE SELECTED FILES and you then tell
Mass Downloader where to send those files to.
DUNN, just like dinner.
Hope that takes care of your problem, I use it every day.
Worx like a charm.
I really to like this Mass Downloader 4sure.
Bootchee.
