Microsoft Windows OneCare will not allow "massdown.exe" access to communicate with the internet. When attempting to explicity specify that OneCare allow the "massdown.exe" to be added the allowed program list. OneCare returns the message that is will not allow the "massdown.exe" to be added to the allowed program list. I have the OneCare software running on some 40+ different boxes without any serious issues. I've opened the issue with Microsoft OneCare tech support and I'm presently awaiting a response. If anyone has an insight into what might be happening between the (2) software packages, please contact me. If I can get a resolution or answer from Microsoft I'll publish their findings to this forum along with support at MetaProducts. Thank You.

As I promised. I received an email from Microsoft this morning concerning the above issue, however without a resolution. and I quote.

"I understand the inconvenience you are experiencing with this issue. I would like to let you know that we have received similar feedback from other beta users pertaining to this issue. Based on the latest feedback from the OneCare Product Team, Mass Downloader is incompatible with the Windows Live OneCare Firewall."

Their response continues to discuss turning off the firewall in order to allow the Mass Downloader software to execute. However, in my mind the security software and security procedures in any box I work in or configure for other users should not be compromised for any reason. I've re-installed or restored many more than my fair share of operating systems over the years. Additionally, in my careful reading of Microsoft's response, they are careful to not provide any indication that they have any intention to change their software to resolve this issue.

Roggie,

Thank you for writing us.

Interesting. There is million of software applications in Internet. Do they plan to prohibit they all?.. :-)
Could you please give us the contact of this Microsoft support person? I will ask her for details.
Also, we plan to test all our software with OneCare thoroughly.

Thanks,
Alexander.

Alexander

I was happy that I could be of assistance. I really didn't do that much other than sending messages detailing the end users view. If you be so kind to keep me informed.

Roggie
