Question, Problem, or Misunderstanding with youtube 480p videos

Hi,

This would be much easier to explain if I could include a few pictures.

Either I am doing something wrong or there is a problem trying to save large 480p videos from youtube. As an example, try to video at the following address:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teeGF-w5Cpw&feature=channel

What happens is the page first loads to the default size of 360p and the video starts. You then click on the button to switch to 480p. If you do this quickly enough, the video restarts from the beginning. You let the video complete downloading and then click the save button.

Normally you would see the first line showing the swf information with a sub line showing the flv file. You would highlight the flv line and click save to get a local copy of the video. But if you do this, you get an incomplete copy. I don't know if it is the portion that came down before switching to 480p or if it is a small part of the 480p video.

To get the whole video, you have to click save on the swf line which does not shows a single file size but rather two file sizes added together. If you save that, you do get a exe file saved that will play the file. But you do not get the actual flv file.

I am trying to get the actual flv file of the 480p. Can you help? Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just misunderstand how this works?

I have also noticed on other sites that sometimes very large flv files show up the same way. In other words, I am not switching the resolution after the page loads. And in those cases, there is no sub line with an flv. All that is available is the one line with the swf which saves locally as an exe file.

I'm sorry of this is a bit wordy or unclear. It might have helped if I could have included a couple of small pictures.

Hi,

You have click 480p button in the swf player in the save preview. Or you can use the Video cache button.
I cannot give you an answer about other sites. I need in them addresses for it.
